Bolonia and Baelo Claudia
Cádiz
Bolonia Beach is one of the most unique spots on the Costa de la Luz: a long cove of fine sand backed by a large moving dune — declared a Natural Monument — and the Roman site of Baelo Claudia, located practically on the beach itself.
Baelo Claudia preserves a forum, basilica, temples, theater, and remains of the ancient fish salting factory, providing a very clear idea of what life was like in a Roman city facing the Atlantic. The combination of the site, dunes, and open sea makes Bolonia an unusual visit even within the province itself.
Combine the visit to the site with a swim at the beach and, if you feel like walking, climb the large dune to see the whole area from above. In summer, it's advisable to arrive early to avoid the strongest heat.
In few places can you so quickly go from a Roman forum to a moving dune, and from there to the open sea: Bolonia is geography, history, and beach in one single walk.
LIVVO Tip: Climb the dune for a full view of the ruins.
